Australia will be represented in all three categories of the 2024 MotoGP World Championship, with both Senna Agius and Jacob Roulstone landing rides in next year’s Moto2 and Moto3 line-ups respectively.

The two young talents have been signed by two well-appointed outfits in the respective championships with Agius gaining a berth in the Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP squad, while Roulstone’s debut season will be with the hugely experienced Red Bull KTM Tech3 team run by Herve Poncharal.

Agius, who we featured recently in an exclusive nine-page interview (AMCN Vol 73 No 05), is set to win the 2023 Moto2 European Championship this weekend, heading into the final round of the series with a 20-point buffer, despite missing a two-race round due to being drafted in as an injury replacement in the world championship.

Senna Agius

His Moto2 world championship debut came at the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix where he deputised for the injured Sam Lowes in the Elf Marc VDS Racing squad. He made three more appearances that year with a best result of ninth in the season-ending Spanish Grand Prix, earning him enough points to finish the season ahead of five full-time Moto2 riders, including some experienced names such as Niccolo Antonelli and Simone Corsi.

So far this year, the 18-year-old has competed in five rounds of the 2023 Moto2 World Championship as part of the Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP team, which has opted to retain his services for the 2024 season alongside South African rider Darryn Binder. It’ll be the second Antipodean match-up in the paddock, with Aussie Jack Miller and Darryn’s older brother Brad forming the two-rider Red Bull KTM MotoGP squad.

“I am feeling super-grateful to have the opportunity to step up with this team. I just have to say thank you for this incredible chance and thanks to everyone involved for believing in me. It will be my rookie season and I have so much to learn but it’s already been a good time riding in Moto2 and I am so happy to be able to be jumping up to Grand Prix now. I am just so excited.”

After a handful of successful seasons in both the Junior World Championship and the red Bull Rookies Cup, 18-year-old Roulstone will partner Moto3 title contender Dani Holgado in the hugely decorated Red Bull KTM Tech3 squad after receiving a phone call from team owner Herve Poncharal.

In an exclusive interview with AMCN, which will appear in the next week’s bumper GP Preview issue, he called it “the best news of my life,” adding that he feels ready for the challenge.

“It’s a super challenging championship, but I’ve been working a lot on the mental side and I believe I’m a mature person,” he said. “My goal next year is to be fast from the start, and Herve has been talking about that as well. I want to be Rookie of the Year in 2024.”
