The covers have come off the 2025 KTM 450 SMR, which the Austrian manufacturer describes as ‘a benchmark in the world of supermoto’.

Using the recently updated 2025 KTM 450 SX-F as its base, the 2025 KTM 450 SMR scores an upgraded frame and fork, and revised ergonomics. It runs KTM’s 449.9cc SOHC four-stroke single that makes a claimed 47kW (63hp), mated to a five-speed ’box with a Suter anti-hopping clutch.

The most significant upgrade for 2025 is to the bike’s frame, with visible cutouts and tube-wall thickness changes around the front end, with the engine and rear shock mountings also updated.

As well as a 300g weight-saving, KTM says these structural changes have been engineered to improve chassis flex characteristics and cornering behaviour, while maintaining overall stability.

For the first time, the 2025 KTM 450 SMR receives an adjustable 48mm WP XACT Closed Cartridge fork with a new mid-valve piston concept that is claimed to optimise oil flow within the cartridge and avoid unwanted oil foaming, better maintaining damping characteristics. A new hydro stop in the last part of the stroke is said to smooth out hard landings in extreme scenarios.

At the rear, a WP XACT shock benefits from an updated linkage with renewed seals and smaller diameter linkage bolts. The setup is taken directly from the KTM Factory Racing Team and has been tested on both dirt and blacktop.

Ergonomically, the 2025 KTM 450 SMR benefits from new tank shrouds that not only provide a new look but also aid in cooling by channeling air more effectively.

The air intake features an updated one-piece inlet sleeve and snorkel design with a more robust and stiffer construction to prevent deformation, while an updated fuel tank roll protects the frame against wear and improves tank fitment.

The 450 SMR is fitted with race-ready Metzeler Racetec SM K1 Supermoto tyres wrapped around lightweight 16.5-inch front and 17-inch rear ALPINA rims.

KTM subjected the new 450 SMR to a rigorous testing regime by handing it over to Supermoto World Championship rider Lukas Höllbacher, who put it through its paces in a variety of challenging environments. If you’re into supermotos, you’ll love the footage. CLICK HERE TO WATCH IT
