Senior and Formula One races boast a star-studded grid on historic bikes

Many of the Isle of Man TT’s leading riders will grid up again for the Manx Classic TT from 17-25 August. John McGuinness MBE will lead off a 50-strong field for the four-lap Senior Classic TT on the Winfield Paton twin. The three-time winner and current lap record holder at 113.342mph faces a huge challenge from top TT riders on a variety of classic machinery.

The grid includes Dean Harrison on a G50 Matchless single and Jamie Coward, twice runner-up on a Manx Norton. Both riders have achieved 110mph-plus laps. Davey Todd will ride a TX500 Yamaha twin while Mike Browne, a double Senior Classic podium finisher, will again race New Zealander Peter Lodge’s pushrod Norton ES2 single.

Conor Cummins will race a CB500 Honda twin while Aussie Davo Johnson is entered on a three-cylinder MV Agusta GP bike.

Shaun Anderson isn’t as well-known but the Paton rider edged out McGuinness last year.

The three-lap Formula One race, a throwback to the late 1980s/early 1990s, is also filled with TT stars, including Michael Dunlop. At the time of publication his machine wasn’t nominated and the three-time winner of this event will face a wave of Kawasaki ZXR750 rivals.

They include David Johnson, who has previously won this race on one, Nathan Harrison, Ian Hutchinson, Dominic Herbertson, Jamie Coward, Craig Neve, Paul Jordon and Brian McCormack.

Mike Browne will return on the Ducati 916 he won last year’s shortened race on.
