Revolving Racer – Thomas Brown | COLUMNS | GASSIT GARAGE

I’m Thomas Brown, I’m 12 years old and I’m currently doing junior road racing in Australia. I’m trying to take every opportunity of my life as a kid while doing what I love best — road racing.

I come from Toowoomba in Queensland and I wouldn’t have been racing if it wasn’t for my dad buying me a Suzuki GAG50(GSXR-50). I was over the moon when I got that bike. My dad and I packed the van and loaded it up and went to Small Wheel Sunday to ride it for the first time. Ever since my first lap, I was hooked. When we started racing we weren’t winning or anything, I was just having fun and enjoying life.

After a few seasons, Dad found a new bike called a Kayo MiniGP 150MR, which Damian Cudlin was selling. We chose to get the Kayo and started out going to the North Coast Road Racers Championship. In our rookie year we won by more than 75 points!

Damian then started a new series called MotoStars. We were really excited to do this and maybe win our first Australian title in just our first three years racing. We are currently tied for first in the championship, and just about to head to my backyard here in Toowoomba over 1-2 July.

My goal is to try and reach World Moto3 and ride for Red Bull KTM or Leopard Racing in the world championship, and try and win it when we become fast on the bike. I want to try and wildcard the Australian GP with my Moto3 and try and get a ride with a team, then go on from there.

I want to keep most of my existing sponsors if I get to the international stage, including Ricondi leathers, West Sliders, Suomy Helmets Australia and one of my main sponsors, Grafton Motor Group. I love all my sponsors and have full respect for them. I try my best to get their names out to people, especially when I get a new sponsor
– I really push for them.

I feel confident about having a chance to win the MotoStars championship with my Kayo MiniGP 150MR. I have learnt so much from Damian Cudlin, my super coach, and I actually dragged my elbow for the first time on it. I didn’t believe what had happened until I slept that night and woke up the next morning with a massive smile on my face.

We have really had our A-game on this year and I’m hoping to keep it on until I retire, which is probably still another 25 years away.
