Metcher Back in Oz! | SPORT

Aussie superstar Jed Metcher is officially back in Australia since his somewhat difficult start to 2016.

Aussie superstar Jed Metcher is officially back in Australia since his somewhat difficult start to 2016.

The 2011 FIM Superstock 600 champion and the joint winner of this year’s Ken Wootton perpetual trophy which he claimed at the AMCN International Island Classic in January touched down in Melbourne on the second weekend of June and will now focus on developing Race Center’s business which is headed by Darren Sciberras.

“Decision made! I’m heading back to Australia to focus on developing Race Center in Melbourne,” said Metcher via social media on 7 of June.

“This is due to the tough times I’ve encountered at the start of the 2016 race season. Focus will be on staying fit, enjoying Melbourne winter for the first time in a long time. It’s hard decision to make at the time but I’m looking forward to opening a new chapter!”

This year Metcher did sign to race for Team Wilbers BMW Racing to contest the 2016 German IDM Superbike Championship. However after splitting with the team before the start of the season, the 26-year-old who hails from Eltham in Victoria picked up a few rides along the way which included a ride with Kawasaki Puccetti Racing in the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup at the Dutch round in April and a World Supersport fill-in position ride with WILSport Racedays Honda at the fifth round at Imola.

Sciberras explained that with their workload and structure, which is supporting young talent in Australia and their heavy involvement with the YMF Yamaha R3 Cup, which races alongside the premier Australian Superbike Championship, it was hard to deal with new customers in regards to answering calls and getting back to new customers seeking their help.

Metcher will take up the role of Sales and Admin ensuring the Race Center team is much better equipped to handle enquiries and provide a much higher level of customer service.

Metcher and Race Center will be working hard to arrange a competitive package for him to remain in Australia for 2017 and continue his new role at Race Center.
