Furygan Full Apex Perfo Suit | RIDING GEAR + EQUIPMENT

Like many, I’m a fan of MotoGP racer Johan Zarco, and while I’ll never ride as well as the Frenchman, I can now look like him thanks to the Furygan Full Apex Perfo Suit Australian distributor Bruce Collins Enterprises has sent me test.

I’m still to wear the leathers on the rack but I have tried them on for size and comfort (see video) and was pleasantly surprised.

The Furygun name may not be instantly recognisable to many readers, but the Panther logo on the back has become well-known thanks to Zarco’s entertaining riding style. It may come as a surprise to many that Furygan has been involved in Grand Prix racing since 1972.

The Full Apex Perfo is Furygan’s top-of-the-range race suit, the production version of Zarco’s suit with only a handful of alteration requested by the Frenchman setting it apart from what I’m now wearing.

The suit is manufactured from full grain 1.4mm cowhide, which feels incredibly light and soft. It has no built-in back protector which helps with weight and comfort and also lets me choose my own back protector. There is also no hip protectors.

The elbows and shoulders are fitted with homologated external shells with aluminum internals for extra protection, and to minimize damaged to the leather on high impact areas. There’s also plenty of trip-stitching in potential high-stress.

Slipping into the suit for the first time revealed it’s a snugger fit than other leather suits I own in the same size. It’s not too tight, but a slightly better fit around the body. A stretch zone at the rear stops it from looking baggy and helps with movement. The cotton liner only goes down to the knees and the shoulders, which will require skins or similar to be worn underneath for comfort.

I have Orangutan-length arms, which means the suit is a little short in the arm, a standard issue for me. Thankfully Furygan also sent through a pair of Fit-R Zarco gloves made from goatskin with plenty of protection. They have a high wrist-cuff which easily covers any bare skin.

The big test of comfort will come when I wear the suit on the racetrack for a full day. Hopefully, I’ll never need to test its many safety features of the suit.
